Temple Sholom Youth Programs

SHAGGY

Temple Sholom’s senior youth group, is open to teens attending high school.  It is affiliated with the Union of Reform Judaism’s North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY) and is part of NFTY’s Northeast Region, which stretches from Canada to eastern New York.

SHAGGY members participate in a broad range of social and educational programs. Recent events have included a sleepover in the sukkah, shul-ins with other local youth groups, assisting with Simchat Torah services, creating and leading a contemporary Havdalah service, and helping with sukkah construction. Many SHAGGY members also play a crucial role by working as teachers in our Tuesday Hebrew program; as such they serve as powerful role models for our younger children and gain valuable leadership skills.

As members of NFTY’s Northeast region SHAGGY-ites attend regional dances, Institutes, and other programs where they have the opportunity to meet other teens from the region and to participate in leadership training. Several SHAGGY members have attended URJ camps, including Eisner, Crane Lake, Kutz, and Harlam, and have also participated in NFTY’s Eisendrath International Exchange (EIE) semester in Israel.
